Data Center Pre-Feasibility Study

A focused first-stage assessment that helps determine whether a proposed project warrants a detailed feasibility study.

Purpose

Screen the opportunity before deeper investment

Before investing the time and resources required for a full feasibility study, a pre-feasibility assessment identifies what appears to have the potential to succeed and which factors may prevent the project from moving forward.

It is generally faster and less costly than a full feasibility study while still providing useful early insight. The goal is not to replace detailed engineering, commercial diligence or specialist verification. It is to support an informed decision about whether deeper study is justified.

Typical early questions

  • Is the proposed site broadly suitable for the intended data center?
  • Will you be allowed to build at the proposed site?
  • Do available power, water, fiber, land and infrastructure appear sufficient?
  • Are there obvious approval, operational or scheduling constraints?
  • Does the high-level cost and revenue picture justify further analysis?
  • Which assumptions, risks or information gaps require verification?

Pre-Feasibility vs Feasibility Study

ConsiderationPre-Feasibility StudyFeasibility Study
PurposeEarly screening and go/no-go guidance.Detailed evaluation of project viability.
DepthHigh-level review using currently available information.Broader and deeper technical, commercial, financial and risk analysis.
TimingBefore committing to full diligence. When the project concept and information base are sufficiently developed.
OutputKey findings, constraints, information gaps and recommended next steps.Detailed findings, analysis, risks, sensitivities, conclusions and recommendations.
